- World Dentistry Conference Dubai

Bob Aunger, the Hygiene Centre’s Behaviour Change Theme Leader, will be presenting his latest work on changing routine behaviour. His conference paper, which focuses particularly on toothbrushing, will be published in the International Dental Journal.

- British Psychological Society Annual Conference

Bob Aunger will be attending the British Psychological Society Annual Conference to be held at the University of Nottingham.

- Retreat

The Hygiene Centre will be going on retreat with senior Unilever Research and Development staff at the beginning of July. A full programme of activities and brain storming will focus our work together for the coming year.

 


April 2007


- First ROSA project team workshop

The first in-country project team workshop will take place in Arusha, Tanzania from 26th - 28th April. ROSA (Resource-Orientated Sanitation concepts for peri-urban areas in Africa) is a Specific Target Research Project funded within the EU's 6th Framework programme, sub-prioriy "Global Change and Ecosystems" it has academic and municipal collaborators within four East African Countires (Ethopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda) and links to other Eu funded projects within the region.

"WEDC Conference, Sri Lanka"

Jeroen Ensink will present the following two papers at the WEDC Conference "Sustainable Development of Water Resources, Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation" in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

"ROSA Project Meeting"

The kick-off meeting of the ROSA project (Resource-Orientated Sanitation concepts for peri-urban areas in Africa) will be hosted in Vienna by the lead organisation BOKU - University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna, Institute of Sanitary Engineering. ROSA is a 'Specific Target Research Project' funded within the European Unions 6th Framework Programme Sub-priority "Global Change and Ecosystems". The five European and eight African partners will attend workshops and meetings as well as hearing from Mr Zisimos Vergos who is the European Commission's Programme Officer responsible for ROSA.

"The Sciences Of Behaviour Change; Time For Synthesis?"

A Spark Process workshop. Behaviour change is the fundamental problem underlying the solution to many public health problems. Applying the best science to interventions designed to change behaviour should result in better social and commercial marketing to improve public health. This conference aims to understand the current state of the art on changing behaviour en masse for the public good. Attendance at this workshop by invitation only.

"Emergency Environmental Health Forum"

The Environmental Health Group of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is to host the annual Interagency water, sanitation and hygiene promotion group's Emergency Environmental Health Forum. The objectives of the forum are to encourage the exchange of field level experiences and strengthen the humanitarian agency institutional memory. It aims to keep field staff up to date with current research and evaluation findings, and help identify subjects in the emergency environmental health sector that need further research.

First held in 2004 the forum aims to meet at the London School each year in January. The 2005 forum was sponsored by Action Contre le faim (ACF), International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), International Federation of Red Cross/Red Crescent (IFRC), International Red Cross (IRC), Medicins Sans Frontiers - Belgium (MSF-B), Medicins Sans Frontiers - Holland (MSF-H) - Oxfam, United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
